Frequently Asked Questions
Nope! Most of our classes are beginner-friendly. If you’ve never touched clay before, you’re in the right place. We also offer classes for returning students looking to grow their skills.
Wear comfortable, washable clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. Closed-toe shoes are required. Clay washes out, but we still recommend dressing casually. Tie back long hair and loose clothes and leave all arm candy (watches, bracelets, rings, etc.) at home.
Open Studio is a time for guests to drop in, introduce yourself and check out the studio and community for yourself! It's also a time for workshop students to come pick up their work when its finally been glazed, fired and is ready for pick up! And it's bonus work time for our 8-week students and independent study artists to continue creating, exploring their craft and meeting new friends!
All classes and workshops include:
- Clay
- Tools
- Glazes
- Aprons
- Firings for class projects
- Instruction during class time
You just show up ready to get your hands dirty.
It depends on the class and your pace. Our focus is learning, experimenting, and developing skills rather than mass production. Quality over quantity always. 1x workshop students can anticipate making 1-2 pieces, 4-week students can anticipate around 3-4 pieces and 8-week students really depends on the artist!
No. However, we schedule open studio Sundays noon-3pm as a time for visitors to drop in, no appointment needed! Just show up! Tour the studio and see why you should join us for a class or workshop! Creating is reserved for enrolled students, workshop attendees, and approved Open Studio participants! We welcome advanced potters! And our 8-week Clay 101 + Beyond classes not only follow an 8-week curriculum leading up to a red carpet art show, they also serve as a studio orientation. Advanced potters are considered the +Beyond portion of Clay 101 +Beyond and you will come in with your own area of focus to start exploring week 1 of our 8-weeks, while being pushed and supported and learning the ins and outs of our studio systems. After completing an 8-week class (or 2 or 3) students are encouraged to join the independent studies track where you are free to work at your own pace without the rigor of the weekly curriculum and art show!
Clay takes time. Pieces usually go through drying, bisque firing, glazing, and glaze firing. Pickup is typically 4-6 weeks after your final class or workshop. We’ll email you when work is ready. We use KilnFire software so you will get notices/reminders from signing up!
1x workshops are not able to be made up. Please plan ahead or send a friend in your place!
4-week classes meet 1x per week, so again, please plan ahead to get the most from your 4 weeks, as there is no room for making up missed classes. Students however are encouraged to keep showing up even if they miss a week, just communicate with your instructor ahead of time.
8-week class students have the most studio time and therefore will have plenty of time to make up missed classes. 8-week students have the opportunity to drop in during ANY other 8-week class that week to hear the same lesson, gain extra practice, meet more friends or just get ahead! PLUS 8-week students have access to indpendent work time: Sundays noon-3pm and Friday's 10-1pm
Missed classes are not refundable.
No. We encourage you to send someone in your place if you cannot make it! Please communicate ahead of time. Due to the nature of running our small business, all sales are final. If you’re unsure which option is right for you, reach out before booking.
No. We use specific clay bodies and glazes to keep the studio safe and kilns running smoothly. Outside materials are not allowed.
