Service Description

Clay 102: Shaping & Altering Forms Already comfortable with centering, throwing cylinders, trimming, and basic glazing? Clay 102 is your next step. This 8-week course is for returning students who have completed Clay 101 or an equivalent multi-week fundamentals class. If you have only taken a one-time workshop or are not confident throwing a clean cylinder and trimming a foot ring, please enroll in Clay 101 first. Taught by studio founder and 20-year ceramics educator Molly Sanyour, Clay 102 pushes your skills beyond the cylinder. You will learn to shape, stretch, cut, dart, facet, attach, paddle, and finish altered forms while developing your personal voice. Instruction is hands-on, high-energy, and focused on creative growth, not production pottery. Weekly Curriculum Week 1: Studio refresh, hand-building and cylinder boot camps, warm-ups, class goals Week 2: Throwing and shaping cylinders Week 3: Altering forms (cutting, darting, faceting, attaching, paddling) Week 4: Finishing altered pieces, planning personal projects Weeks 5–6: Personal project time Week 7: Final glazing Week 8: Celebration and studio showcase!!!! What’s Included • All clay, tools, glazes, and firings for class projects • Personal shelf space for work-in-progress • Sunday Open Studio access (12–2 PM) • Drop-in access to ANY other 8-week class that week for make-ups or extra practice! (Note: Instruction happens during your enrolled class; drop-ins are independent work time.) We supply everything you need. Each technique unit yields about 3–6 pieces, and the personal project adds another 3–6 works that reflect your evolving style. Our studio centers on teaching and exploration, not mass production. Outside clay and glazes are not permitted. All Clay 102 sections follow the same curriculum, so if you miss your regular class you may attend another 102 session that week to stay on track. At the end of eight weeks we’ll celebrate with a student art show during Open Studio, inviting friends and family to see your new work!!!! Clay 102 is your chance to refine technique, shape bold forms, and grow confidence at the wheel and table. Ready to level up? Enroll today and keep building your creative journey!!!!
