New to clay? New to our studio? Just want to build a strong foundation? Clay 101 is the perfect place to start. This 8-week course is designed for beginners and those ready to develop essential ceramic skills in a fun, welcoming, and professionally guided studio setting. Whether you’ve never touched clay or are looking to refine the basics, this class will teach you everything you need to begin creating with clay — whether that means functional pieces, sculptural forms, or anything in between! Some students dive into wheel throwing, others focus on hand building, and everyone is encouraged to follow their own creative spark. Taught by Molly Sanyour — a ceramic artist, educator, and studio founder with over 20 years of experience — this class is led with passion, purpose, and a whole lot of encouragement. Molly’s teaching style is hands-on, high-energy, and grounded in helping each student feel successful. From teaching high school ceramics for nearly a decade to building her own dream studio, she brings both deep expertise and infectious enthusiasm to every class. Weekly Curriculum Week 1: Studio tour, hand-building intro, clay basics Week 2: Cylinder Bootcamp Week 3: Throwing bowls Week 4: Trimming and first glaze intro Weeks 5–6: Personal project time Week 7: Final glazing Week 8: Celebration and studio showcase!!!! (Note: Instruction happens during your enrolled class time. Drop-ins are independent work time.) We provide all materials needed for the course. Our focus is on learning, exploration, and building skills — not production pottery. For each topic and technique, students typically create 3–6 pieces. During the personal project phase, you'll create 3–6 additional works based on your own vision. Good to Know All Clay 101 classes follow the same weekly curriculum, so you can attend a different session if you miss your regular class. Outside clay and glazes are not permitted. At the end of the 8 weeks, we’ll celebrate with a final art show and community gathering during Open Studio. Friends and family are invited to come see what you’ve made!!!! Come play, explore, and discover your creative spark!!!! Clay 101 is where it all begins, and we can’t wait to meet you!!!!
